Reality based television shows are becoming the rage of network television. Whether it is spectacular car jumps, police ride-alongs, or living on an island with a bunch of strangers, these shows have captured our fancy. Today’s FamSite looks at a show that is in the same vein, but with a different twist to it.

Called The 1900 House, this PBS companion site to the television show of the same name features an everyday average family and their daily lives. The twist to the show and the site is that this family has no comforts of our modern age. They live as if they were in the year 1900. No electricity, no central heating, no television, no McDonalds. For three months the Bowler family entered a time machine, and learned first hand how our ancestors lived. At this site, you can meet the family, learn about the trials and tribulations of going back in time, all by using the latest in Internet technology. There are some online lesson plans that can be used to supplement viewing the shows, if they are being viewed by a class.

So step in your cyber-time machine, and enjoy a trip back to the good old days. But were they really that good? Visit the site and decide for yourself.
